Art Description
Whenever I think of Gangarr I think of how windy it is there and knew I had to capture the ‘Cooktown Breeze’ in the art piece. It is a place that I hold close to my heart and never miss a chance to go for a ‘wharfie’ (Cooktown slang for drive down the wharf)
Gangarr in Gugu Yimithirr describes the Cooktown region or place of clear quartz crystals. I am connected to this place through my great-great grandmother and her grandparents before her. In my culture the land and connection to Country is just as important as your connection to your family - as we are seen as one with the land & sea.
