Frequently Asked Questions

What is Smooth Cotton Rag?

Smooth Cotton Rag Paper, also known as rag paper, or simply "rag" is made using cotton linters or cotton from used cloth (rags) as the primary material. Papers manufactured of cotton fibre will last longer and hold up better under repeated handling and various environmental conditions than paper made from wood pulp. Generally, given reasonable care, a customer can expect one year of usable life for every 1% of cotton contained in the sheet. Gurrngul Art prints contain 100% cotton, therefore have the potential to last 100 years. Please see example below.

What is Stretched Canvas?

Canvas is a plain-woven fabric typically made out of cotton and, to a lesser extent, linen. Canvas fabric is known for being durable, sturdy, and heavy duty. By blending cotton with synthetic fibres, canvas can become water resistant or even waterproof, making it a great outdoor fabric. Stretched Canvas is the canvas wrapped around the wooden frame and stapled in place. Please see example below.

What about Framing?

Smooth Cotton Rag Paper is not framed due to risk of damaging print with potential broken glass in shipping.

Currently, Gurrngul Art does not provide wooden floating frames for stretched canvases.

How should the Smooth Cotton Rag Paper be framed?

Gurrngul Art recommend custom framing for Smooth Cotton Rag Paper artwork. This ensures the security that print will perfectly fit frame unlike ready-made frames. This also guarantees high quality glass that will best protect the print from external conditions such as water, dust and sunlight. Ready-made frames are more suited to smaller prints i.e., A5, A4, A3, 8” x 8”, 12” x 12” & 15” x 15”. Gurrngul Art recommends all large prints to be framed professionally.

If I purchase the artwork, can I manufacture and reproduce it?

NO. Products bought by Gurrngul Art cannot be reproduced and manufactured unless under a legal agreement with and signed by Gurrngul Art. Please read Gurrngul Art Terms of Service.
