'Bush Medicine’ was guided by all the women before me who would go out, understand and knew what each plant gave. The woman who had to collect the plants for a belly ache medicine, or the strong fibres to weave a birthing mat and the dyes to create vibrant colours in their weavings. Knowing which plants to touch and which plants not too. Having such a strong, deeply embedded relationship with the land around them that they trusted each other.
The land is referred to as our Mother because I believe she takes care of us and nurtures us.This art piece was inspired by just that - our Mothers. It was created not long after being on Binhdhi Warra Country with my two nannies & muma.
This piece was created on Gimuy Walubara Yidinji Country in Cairns, QLD.
